Scarsdale.Life
By accessing or using Scarsdale.Life ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
Scarsdale.Life is an online marketplace and community platform that connects homeowners with independent home service providers in the Scarsdale, New York area. The Platform facilitates discovery, communication, scheduling, and payment coordination between homeowners and providers.
The Platform is a venue, not a party to transactions. Scarsdale.Life does not provide home services, does not employ service providers, and does not guarantee the quality, safety, or legality of any services offered or performed through the Platform.
You must create an account to use the Platform. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use.
Adding a property or vehicle to the Platform lets you track maintenance for it; a claim is not exclusive and is not a representation of ownership (more than one user may track the same property or vehicle). By ordering work through the Platform, you represent and warrant that you own the property/vehicle or are otherwise authorized to order the requested work on it. The Platform does not verify ownership or authority to order work and makes no representation about either; providers are responsible for their own customer due diligence (see the Provider Agreement). You are responsible for all activity under your account.
Service providers on the Platform are independent businesses, not employees, agents, or representatives of Scarsdale.Life. The Platform does not:
Providers are solely responsible for:
Users may create and join community groups on the Platform. Community champions manage their organizations' membership, announcements, and settings.
Providers may offer discounts to members of specific communities. These offers are set entirely by the provider — the Platform does not set, recommend, or require any pricing or discount terms.
The Platform provides in-platform messaging between homeowners and providers. Messages are stored on the Platform and may be accessed by the Platform webmaster for dispute resolution purposes, as described in Section 8.
The Platform may verify provider license and insurance status using public records and provider-submitted documentation. This verification does not constitute an endorsement, guarantee, or warranty of any provider's work quality, reliability, or fitness for any particular purpose. See our Verification Disclaimer for full details.
The Platform displays transaction-derived metrics (homes served, on-time completion rate, invoice accuracy) based on Platform data. These metrics are informational and do not constitute a rating, endorsement, or guarantee.
These terms implement the data model described in our Privacy Policy. Capitalized data terms are used as defined there.
The verified maintenance history generated for a home is a record about the property. Each current owner of that property is a custodian of its record with rights to view, export, and share it while they own the home. The record is designed to persist across changes of ownership.
Where a property has multiple owners, each current owner may access and export the home's record. Actions that share the full record with a third party, or transfer it at sale, are logged with the acting owner. One owner ending their account does not delete the property's record; it persists for the remaining owner(s), with the departing owner's personal identifiers severed.
At a change of ownership, the seller may pass the home's record to the buyer. Identifiers personal to the seller are not carried over as the seller's personal data. (Whether transfer is automatic or seller-initiated is a configurable Platform setting; see the Privacy Policy.)
By using the Platform you grant Scarsdale.Life a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, use, reproduce, and create derivative works from your content and platform activity (i) to operate the Platform and maintain the home's record, and (ii) to create and commercialize de-identified and aggregate datasets and analytics. The rights in (ii) survive termination of your account in their de-identified/aggregate form, because that data no longer identifies you.
We draw an explicit line between the data that is yours (and that we delete or anonymize when you leave) and the record that belongs to the Platform:
Your personal layer — your identity and contact (name, email, phone, login), your messages, and your payment identity (who paid / the payment instrument). This is yours; we remove or anonymize it on account deletion (see Privacy Policy §8) and we do not claim ownership of it.
The Platform's record — everything else: the work performed, dates, system ages, provider, cost amounts, the verified maintenance events, and the compiled databases, indices, models, benchmarks, and other aggregate or de-identified works created from platform activity. Scarsdale.Life owns this record and the asset built from it, and it persists about the property after your personal layer is removed.
Our perpetual, post-termination rights (§6A.4) attach to this Platform-owned record in its de-identified and aggregate form. We do not claim a perpetual right over data that still personally identifies you; external licensing of any property-level record is done only in de-identified/aggregate form (above an aggregation threshold) or with your opt-in.
A completion confirmation creates a verified maintenance record that becomes part of the home's history and of the aggregate asset. Such records reflect facts about work performed and may not be unilaterally retracted by either party, though factual corrections may be requested through support.
The Platform shares your identified records with a specific third party (such as an insurer) only with your explicit, purpose-specific opt-in, which you may withdraw at any time. De-identified and aggregate datasets (§6A.4) are not subject to this opt-in because they do not identify you.
The Platform currently facilitates invoicing and payment tracking. Actual payment processing is handled between homeowners and providers directly.
When payment processing is enabled (via Stripe Connect or similar), the Platform will act as a payment facilitator, not a party to the transaction. The Platform will never hold funds in escrow or make binding financial decisions regarding fund release.
Disputes between homeowners and providers are between those parties. The Platform may facilitate non-binding mediation through the webmaster, who may:
The webmaster does NOT make binding decisions, release or hold funds, or mandate outcomes.
If Platform-facilitated mediation does not resolve a dispute, parties may pursue:
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SCARSDALE.LIFE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DAMAGES ARISING FROM:
The Platform is intended for use by adults (18 years of age or older) who are property owners or authorized representatives of home service businesses. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
The Platform does not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will promptly delete their account and associated data.
The Platform is not directed at children under 13. In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personal information from children under 13. If a parent or guardian believes their child has provided personal information to the Platform, they should contact the webmaster immediately for removal.
If a minor accesses the Platform through a parent or guardian's account (for example, to assist with property management tasks), the parent or guardian is responsible for all activity under that account and assumes all liability.
Either party may terminate their account at any time. The Platform reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Each version is dated and retained, and we record which version you accepted and when. For non-material changes (clarifications, typos) we will post the updated version and notify you. For material changes (for example, to our data rights or how your information is shared), we will require you to review and accept the new version before continuing to use the Platform; until you do, the version you last accepted governs your use. Platform operators (webmaster/admin) act under internal policy rather than these consumer Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Certain communities served by the Platform may be subject to additional state or local regulations. Where applicable, jurisdiction-specific terms are provided as appendices to these Terms and are incorporated by reference.
For questions about these Terms, contact the Platform webmaster.
